Glass safety film / window safety filmGlass Safety Films protect people by holding broken glass in place, thus reducing the injuries that would otherwise happen. Once applied, it will upgrade the glass to comply with BS EN 12600 (BSEN12600 / BS12600). BS EN 12600 has now replaced BS6206 class B and BS EN12600 safety film should be used wherever BS6206 film was specified previously.
Advantages of window safety film: hold the glass together (no fragments of glass flying about which could cause injury), stopping someone falling through the glass (especially important if a fall might then result), reducing mess (even safety glass when broken produces a huge number of small fragments of glass which get everywhere!), reduces the chance of projectiles coming though the window (bricks etc) and makes entry into building by burglar/vandal a lot harder.
Our window film has been tested to BS EN 12600 (classification 2B2) which has replaced the old standard BS6206 class B and therefore can be used in workplace situations, in childminder's homes, schools, etc. Businesses, childminders etc may need to prove compliance with the regulations governing glass safety - see bottom of page for more information.
The window film comes in two widths. It is easy to fit and comes with full instructions. For advice, please telephone us on 01799 700024 or use the Contact Us link above.
SPECIFICATIONS 4 mil / 0.1mm thickness (a mil is one thousandth of an inch). Break Strength - 100 pli (pounds per linear inch). Puncture Strength - 65 lbs/square inch. Peel Strength - 5 lbs/square inch.
We recommend you should buy enough window safety film to allow each piece you cut to be at least 12mm longer and wider than the glass to be covered. This slight overlap of window film can be easily trimmed off with a craft knife after you have applied the safety film. |

Tools needed to apply the glass window safety film To apply the glass safety film / window safety film you will need the following: Rubber squeegee (you may already have one of these in your car for cleaning your windscreen, although a proper window cleaner's type squeegee makes it a bit easier - available below). A purpose-made window scraper tool is useful for removing any paint from windows. Trimming knife (e.g. Stanley knife type). Straight edge / ruler (helps with cutting). Fluff-free soft cloth. You will also need a spray bottle filled with a wetting solution (1 teaspoon full of normal washing up detergent to 1 litre of cold water). Alternatively you could use a bowl of the wetting solutions and a sponge to apply it.
Full instructions for installation come with the window safety film / glass safety film. |
